When God Sends You Curve Balls

***Hello!!!*** I’m just getting back to work after being on Maternity Leave. I’ve really missed you! Selah turns 7 weeks old tomorrow and she reminds me of how blessed we each are with unexpected gifts.

I want to share a story about seeking God in the curve balls of life.

You see, Selah was most definitely WANTED. However, we didn’t expect God to give her to us so soon after we had Isabella. I remember the day I found out I was pregnant with her. Isabella just turned 9 months old, was in the middle of a big developmental stage (read: lots of crying and less of sleep!) and I found out I was pregnant. I actually told God, “But how can this be?! I thought you wanted me to create InspireAwesome and share more about YOU with men and women looking to live their purpose and shine their light in to the world? Plus, it took us 2.5 years to get pregnant again with Isabella (our second child)! This is out of left field!” Don’t get me wrong. I KNOW how I got pregnant (ahem) but I just didn’t expect it to happen so soon.

I fought God for 2 days. Then, I heard God over and over say through people I love, “Surrender the details. I’ve got this and you are covered in blessing and love.” So, I begrudgingly surrendered. Then, I start to fall in love. With her, with the idea of another baby in the family…and then I got crazy sick, had gestational diabetes, was on bed rest for 3-4 weeks and then….she went 4 days over her due date.

Talk about frustration! I was definitely feeling overwhelmed by trying to be the best mom I could be to my then 16 month old and my 5 year old while being so pregnant. I was stopped in my tracks, and what felt like everything that was “easy” in the first 2 pregnancies was now completely the opposite with this pregnancy. In fact, as I was putting this post together, I realized the post I wrote right before going on maternity leave clearly indicates what I was learning in the midst of the frustration. Ha!

I kept having to lean into this truth – God has it under control. Surrender the details. Give Him praise even when it doesn’t fit what I expected it to look and feel like.

Now that Selah is here, I can’t imagine my life without her. She IS a gift to the other 4 of us in our family, and I’m blessed to be called Mama once again. I share this because I have experienced over the last 10 months this truth: God will never leave you nor forsake you. His plan is SO. Much. Better. Than. Yours.

He has shown me that the more I lay my expectations at His feet in the midst of what He’s called me to do here at Inspire Awesome, with amazing women and men in this community, the more I can see His hand in the details.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the HOW of what you know He’s called you to, I invite you to surrender to Him. Trust Him today with the gifts He wants to bless you with in the midst of the challenges. Surrender and feel Him move in your life in immeasurable ways.

As I share this, I also wanted to share with you a photo of this sweet gift. Meet Selah “Say-lah” ;) Murphy, the newest in the Murphy clan. xoSelah Murphy

What’s up with SURRENDERing?

Oh, man….
This word. SURRENDER.
I’ll be honest with you, this is one of my most recent lessons and wow, I’ve been trying to run from it.
Another honest fact about me: I love to be in control.
Over the last 2 years I’ve been pregnant twice and I also see that I’m being called into the work I’m doing right now here at InspireAwesome.com. I’m pregnant (37 weeks as of this writing with my 3rd!), about to raise 3 girls, work from home, until recently ran a successful 6-figure company… and God is calling me to surrender that company and use my gifts, talents and experiences to create what is InspireAwesome.com.
I fought and fought and tried to stay small. I would “change the subject” with God, and yet, He kept calling me back to the vision He’s set in front of me for this community and how I believe He wants to use this site to serve more leaders with a voice and a passion to make this world a better place to live.
So, I’ve leaned into this. From having my last daughter without any medication (and hoping to do the same with this third one) to knowing and trusting that God is in control of how releasing a business and starting afresh while raising 3 girls 5 years old and under, to putting out a program and trusting God to use me and create a new revolution of change makers that are guised as moms and dads, entrepreneurs, and community leaders to bring their voices to change the world….I’ve been practicing SURRENDER.
It’s one of the most difficult things I’ve done, and yet…I would do it again. I am practicing the idea that I don’t have to know all the details and yet, prepare enough to expect the unexpected – and be open to what doors that will lead to next.
Surrendering your expectations and your ideas about how it should be will lead you on to an adventure you can’t imagine. Surrender and open your eyes to what’s around the corner!
I will be sure to write more on this topic for sure. In the meantime, share with me what you think about this. What does it look like in your life to surrender?
